Cleveland currently sit fifth in the Eastern Conference, positioning themselves firmly in the play-off picture. Harden himself acknowledged that the competitive balance of the Eastern Conference played a key role in his decision, believing the Cavaliers offer a stronger pathway to silverware.

Despite speculation, he has rejected claims that he forced a move, instead framing the transfer as a mutual recognition that a long-term future was unlikely. Across five franchises, Harden has accumulated 28,805 career points, ranking ninth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list — a testament to his sustained excellence.

For the Clippers, Garland represents a younger cornerstone. The 26-year-old has averaged 18 points per game this season, though injuries have limited his consistency. Los Angeles will also receive a second-round pick in this year’s draft, adding future value as they reshape their squad.

If confirmed, the trade could add extra intrigue to Wednesday’s scheduled meeting between the two teams, though both players must pass medicals before any debut is possible.
