Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the situation of Al-Shabab player Fahad Al-Muwallad, who was recently taken to a hospital in Dubai, UAE.
A hashtag bearing Al-Muwallad’s name trended on the social media platform “X” after Al-Shabab announced that the player had suffered a health crisis in Dubai. This occurred shortly after his participation in Saudi Arabia’s matches against Indonesia and China during the first two rounds of the 2026 World Cup Asian qualifiers, which are set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
While many fans and well-wishers sent messages for a speedy recovery, an account called “Almodrj” on X refuted the claims of a health issue, alleging that Al-Muwallad had fallen from the second floor of an apartment in Dubai. Despite the severity of the incident, other sources confirmed that his condition is stable and he is receiving proper medical care.
Further details were provided by the “Dorina” program on Saudi TV, which reported that after completing his national team duties, Al-Muwallad was granted a two-day leave by Al-Shabab to rest. He traveled to Dubai, where he was involved in a traffic accident and was promptly taken to the hospital.
Al-Muwallad’s most recent appearance with the Saudi national team came in their 2-1 victory over China last Tuesday at Dalian Stadium, during the second round of Group C in the third phase of the Asian qualifiers.
Al-Muwallad’s international career with Saudi Arabia began in 2011 when he competed in the U-20 World Cup in Colombia. He also participated in the 2012 AFC U-19 Championship. At the senior level, he represented Saudi Arabia in the 2014 Gulf Cup in Riyadh, the 2015 AFC Asian Cup in Australia, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Notably, he played a pivotal role in helping Saudi Arabia qualify for their first World Cup in 12 years by scoring the only goal in a crucial match against Japan at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on September 5, 2017.
However, in the 2018-2019 season, Al-Muwallad was suspended for one year by the Saudi Anti-Doping Committee after testing positive for banned substances following a match against Al-Nassr.
