Manchester City and Liverpool Bid Farewell to Guardiola and Salah

Pep Guardiola brought the curtain down on his historic journey with Manchester City by taking charge of his final match at the Etihad Stadium, in an emotional farewell night during the final round of the Premier League season against newly crowned Europa League champions Aston Villa.

Guardiola had confirmed before the match that he would leave the club at the end of the season, ending a remarkable 10-year era during which Manchester City became one of the strongest and most successful clubs in world football. Throughout that period, the Catalan manager guided the club to a series of historic achievements, most notably six Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League triumph, in addition to numerous domestic and continental trophies that established City among Europe’s elite.

Manchester City supporters also bid farewell to defender John Stones and Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva after both played their final matches for the club. City started the game brightly and opened the scoring through Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo in the 23rd minute amid celebratory scenes inside the stadium. However, Aston Villa, who entered the match full of confidence following their European success, turned the game around in the second half thanks to striker Ollie Watkins, who scored twice in the 47th and 61st minutes to secure victory and guarantee Villa a fourth-place finish and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Farewell for Liverpool’s “King”

Anfield also witnessed emotional farewell scenes as Egyptian star Mohamed Salah and Scottish defender Andy Robertson played their final matches in a Liverpool shirt. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with the Reds settling for a fifth-place finish, marking a clear decline compared to last season when they were crowned league champions.

Curtis Jones opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 58th minute after an assist from Salah, before German forward Kevin Schade equalised for Brentford just six minutes later.

Following the final whistle, Liverpool’s players and coaching staff formed a guard of honour to salute Salah and Robertson amid tears from both players and applause from the supporters, before club legends Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush stepped forward to embrace the departing duo.

Tottenham Survive as West Ham Go Down

Tottenham Hotspur managed to avoid the disaster of relegation to the Championship after edging past Everton 1-0 thanks to a goal from Portuguese midfielder João Palhinha.

In contrast, West Ham United’s 3-0 victory over Leeds United was not enough to preserve their Premier League status, as the London club were relegated for the first time in 14 years.

Chelsea, meanwhile, ended the season with another defeat after losing 2-1 away to Sunderland in a match the London side finished with 10 men. The result confirmed the end of a disappointing campaign that will see Chelsea miss out on European competition next season under incoming Spanish manager Xabi Alonso.

As for Arsenal, this season’s Premier League champions enjoyed special celebrations at Selhurst Park before their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, with the home side forming a guard of honour to honour Mikel Arteta’s team after winning the league title for the first time since 2004.

Elsewhere, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes once again starred as he led his side to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Brighton. The Portuguese playmaker set a new record for the most assists in a single Premier League season after creating the opening goal for Danish defender Patrick Dorgu before scoring United’s third himself. Fernandes ended the campaign with 21 assists, surpassing the previous record jointly held by French legend Thierry Henry and Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
