Newmarket July Festival Day 2: Three Expert Horse Racing Tips
The second afternoon of the Newmarket July Festival promises another high-quality spectacle, with Friday’s seven-race card featuring a mix of elite fillies’ contests and competitive handicaps.
The spotlight falls firmly on the female stars, with the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and the prestigious Group 1 Falmouth Stakes headlining the meeting. Alongside those feature races, several intriguing handicaps offer excellent betting opportunities.
After assessing the full card, we've identified three runners who look particularly well placed to deliver at Headquarters.
Newmarket Day 2 Best Bets

- 14:25 – Libertango @ 4/6
- 15:35 – Precise @ 8/11
Progressive Colt Looks Ready for Handicap Company
Jack Channon’s Decade Of Time makes his handicap debut after producing a series of encouraging performances that suggest there's still plenty of improvement to come.
The son of Study Of Man caught the eye when finishing third on his debut at Newbury before taking a significant step forward to break his maiden at Windsor, comfortably accounting for Heraldry, who reopposes here.
Despite carrying a penalty next time out at Nottingham, he produced an even more authoritative display, cruising clear to score by over four lengths on testing ground.
A move up to 1m2f looks likely to unlock further progress, while an opening handicap mark of 92 appears fair for a colt who could develop into a pattern-class performer later in the campaign.
Tip 1: 13:50 Newmarket – Decade Of Time @ 11/2
Royal Ascot Winner Sets the Standard
George Boughey continues to establish himself among Britain's leading trainers, and Libertango looks capable of enhancing that reputation once again.
She made an immediate impression when overcoming inexperience to score comfortably on debut at Leicester, defeating male rivals despite a less-than-perfect start. The strength of that form has since been boosted by subsequent victories from horses behind her.
Her biggest statement arrived at Royal Ascot, where she maintained her unbeaten record with an impressive victory in the Albany Stakes.
Although Sun Goddess briefly looked the likely winner, Libertango travelled strongly throughout before asserting herself in convincing fashion. The form has received another boost after the runner-up landed a Group 2 contest at the Curragh.
With proven class at this level and obvious scope for further improvement, she sets a high standard for the opposition.
Tip 2: 14:25 Newmarket – Libertango @ 4/6
Classy Filly Can Add Another Group 1 Success
The Falmouth Stakes provides three-year-old fillies with the opportunity to challenge older rivals, and Precise arrives looking ideally positioned to capitalize.
Aidan O'Brien's filly has already established herself among the leading performers of her generation after collecting four Group 1 victories.
Her rapid development during the second half of last season saw her land both the Moyglare Stud Stakes and the Fillies' Mile, while this campaign has only strengthened her credentials.
After shaping as though she needed the outing in the 1000 Guineas, she reversed that form at the Curragh before displaying tremendous determination to overcome adversity and capture the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Receiving a valuable 9lb age allowance against older rivals only strengthens her position, and she appears to possess the strongest overall profile in the field.
Tip 3: 15:35 Newmarket – Precise @ 8/11
