Real Madrid stand firm on Vinicius Jr contract as Alonso tests Brazilian star’s role

Real Madrid have made it clear they will not improve their current contract offer to Vinicius Junior, despite growing tension between the Brazilian forward and the club. The 25-year-old, who has been a symbol of Madrid’s attacking flair in recent years, now finds himself under closer scrutiny following the arrival of Xabi Alonso.

The new coach has not hesitated to rotate his squad, dropping Vinicius to the bench twice in recent weeks, including against Real Sociedad and Marseille. While Vinicius has voiced his frustration to club president Florentino Pérez, Madrid remain firm in their stance that his demands for a significant wage increase will not be met.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, the winger’s agent, Frederico Peña, held talks on Monday with Madrid’s chief executive José Ángel Sánchez to revisit the matter. Discussions had been ongoing as early as six months ago, when an extension seemed imminent. However, negotiations stalled during the Club World Cup after the player’s salary expectations were deemed excessive. With two years still left on his contract, Madrid insist their latest offer will remain unchanged.

Despite the uncertainty, Vinicius continues to play a role in Madrid’s promising start to the campaign, having scored twice and provided two assists in La Liga. While linked with a potential move to Saudi Arabia last year, the forward has reiterated his desire to stay in Spain. Still, if no agreement is reached by next summer, the option of exploring new opportunities elsewhere cannot be ruled out.

For now, Alonso’s decisions have introduced an unfamiliar reality for Vinicius: a starting spot is no longer guaranteed. His response on the pitch may well determine whether he can reclaim his status as an undisputed figure at the Santiago Bernabéu.
