Ferrari Show Faith in Frederic Vasseur with New Multi-Year Deal Amid Championship Pursuit

Ferrari has reaffirmed its confidence in Frederic Vasseur by awarding the French team principal a new multi-year contract, extending his stay beyond the originally planned end of 2025. Vasseur, who joined Ferrari at the beginning of the 2023 season, has overseen a phase of cautious rebuilding after inheriting a team that faltered under the pressure of a failed title challenge in 2022.

Since replacing Mattia Binotto, Vasseur has worked to solidify Ferrari’s technical and strategic core. His leadership helped transform a struggling car into a competitive force, culminating in Carlos Sainz’s standout victory at the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix — the only non-Red Bull win of the season.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna emphasized the symbolic and strategic importance of this renewal, stating: “We’re building on a foundation of trust, ambition, and clear accountability. The journey continues with focused determination.”

The 57-year-old Vasseur acknowledged the challenge ahead: “This renewal isn’t just validation—it’s a call to action. We’ve laid the groundwork, but now comes the real test: to consistently compete at the front.”

Vasseur’s most high-profile move to date came in early 2024, when he secured the signing of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton to partner Charles Leclerc from this season onward. Despite this bold reshaping of the driver line-up, Ferrari has struggled to match expectations in the 2025 season.

Hamilton, while securing a sprint win in China from pole, has failed to reach a Grand Prix podium, while Leclerc has been more consistent, claiming five podium finishes, including a second place on home soil in Monaco. Ferrari currently sits second in the constructors’ standings, 268 points adrift of McLaren, who are experiencing a renaissance of their own. The gap to Mercedes in third is narrower—just 28 points.

Individually, Leclerc and Hamilton are fifth and sixth in the drivers’ championship, trailing behind rivals Max Verstappen and George Russell, both of whom have recorded Grand Prix victories this year.

Ferrari’s extension of Vasseur’s contract signals continued belief in his long-term vision, even as the team remains short of delivering a title. The Frenchman’s challenge now is to convert potential into consistent results—a pursuit as much about endurance as it is about speed.
