Luke Shaw Hails Ruben Amorim for Transforming Man Utd’s Dressing Room Culture

Luke Shaw has opened up about the dramatic shift in Manchester United’s dressing room atmosphere under new manager Ruben Amorim, describing the environment before the Portuguese coach’s arrival as “toxic” and emotionally draining. Having played under six managers in 11 years at Old Trafford, Shaw’s reflections provide rare insight into the morale challenges that plagued the team prior to Amorim’s leadership.

Despite spending much of the 2024-25 season sidelined by injury, Shaw is now back and energized for the season ahead. During United’s pre-season tour of the United States, he praised Amorim’s strict but unifying approach, crediting the former Sporting CP boss for rebuilding trust, instilling discipline, and fostering unity in the squad.

“It wasn’t just something the media exaggerated,” Shaw told reporters. “It really was a negative and unhealthy place to be. You could feel the tension. But now there’s a totally different energy. It’s more than just tactics – it’s about mindset and connection.”

He emphasized that Amorim’s methods, while demanding, have created a structure in which no player is allowed to slack off. “There are no stragglers anymore,” Shaw said. “He’s extremely tough and holds everyone accountable. If you’re not giving your all for the team, you won’t play. Simple as that.”

The change is already evident in team dynamics. Shaw described the squad’s current cohesion as the strongest he’s experienced at the club. “I genuinely feel like this is the closest we’ve ever been as a group,” he added. “Everyone is aligned, and that’s powerful going into the new season.”

United will face Bournemouth in their next pre-season fixture in Chicago before beginning their Premier League campaign at home against Arsenal on August 17 – a match that promises to be a crucial litmus test for Amorim’s cultural reset.
