Barcelona crowned Spanish champions in front of Real Madrid

Barcelona were crowned La Liga champions for the 29th time in their history after defeating fierce rivals Real Madrid 2-0 in El Clásico at Camp Nou during Matchday 35.

The Catalan side entered the match needing only a single point to officially secure the title, but instead chose to settle matters with another victory over their historic rivals, confirming their domestic superiority this season and celebrating the triumph in front of their home supporters in perfect fashion.

This title carries special significance for Barcelona, as it is one of the rare occasions in which the Spanish league crown has been mathematically decided directly through the result of El Clásico itself.

With this achievement, Barça successfully retained the title for a second consecutive season, extending the gap over Real Madrid to 14 points, while the Madrid giants continue to endure a disappointing campaign that has seen them eliminated from every competition without lifting a single trophy.

Despite the disappointment of their Champions League quarter-final exit against Atlético Madrid, Barcelona showed strong character in recent weeks and managed to shift their full focus toward sealing La Liga — a mission they accomplished against their biggest rivals.

The victory was also dedicated to German coach Hansi Flick, who experienced an emotional and difficult evening after learning of his father’s death just hours before the match, yet still guided his side to another major title under extremely challenging circumstances.

Key moments from the match

On the pitch, the newly crowned champions imposed themselves from the opening whistle and took the lead through English forward Marcus Rashford, who curled a superb free-kick into the top corner beyond Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to give Barcelona the perfect start.

Before Madrid had the chance to reorganize themselves, Barça struck again following an excellent team move. Dani Olmo cleverly set the ball up with a backheel pass for Ferran Torres, who controlled it brilliantly before firing powerfully into the net.

Although Real Madrid attempted to fight their way back into the contest, particularly through Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior, Barcelona’s defense remained highly organized throughout the match. At the other end, Courtois prevented an even heavier defeat by producing several important saves against Rashford, Torres, and later Robert Lewandowski, who came off the bench in the second half.

The match also featured the absence of several major stars, most notably French striker Kylian Mbappé, who had not fully recovered from injury, as well as Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal. Their absences opened the door for Rashford and Torres to shine in attack.

With three rounds still remaining, Barcelona continue to chase additional milestones, including the possibility of reaching the 100-point mark and completing a perfect home record — achievements that would further underline a season that has restored the club to the summit of Spanish football.
