Al-Nasr Saudi Club Tempts Van Dijk with a Huge Salary

Al-Nasr Saudi Club has begun their efforts to sign Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk in the current summer transfer window.

According to the Spanish newspaper “Marca,” an Al-Nasr Club officials met with Van Dijk’s agent to discuss the idea of the veteran Dutch defender joining the “Al-Alamy” ranks.

The newspaper indicated that Al-Nasr offered Van Dijk a huge salary, which would make him the highest-paid defender in the world, although the financial details of the offer were not revealed.

Al-Nasr aims to build a strong team to compete with their rival, Al-Hilal, next season after failing to secure any titles last season.

Van Dijk, 32, joined Liverpool in the winter of 2018 from Southampton for 84.65 million euros. His current contract extends until the summer of 2025, which may push Liverpool to agree to his departure to avoid losing him for free at the end of his contract. This season, he participated in 48 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals and assisting two.

Van Dijk’s decision regarding the offer is expected after the European Cup finals, in which he is playing with the Netherlands. The tournament continues until July 14 in Germany, with the Netherlands in Group D alongside France, Austria, and Poland. They open their campaign on Sunday against Poland.

Additionally, Van Dijk is not the only target for Al-Nasr. The club is also negotiating with Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny of Juventus to replace their Colombian goalkeeper, David Ospina.
