A Big First Test This Season for Juventus and Inter

A Serie A showdown will take place on Saturday as Juventus face their historic rivals Inter Milan in Match week 3 of the Italian league.

This clash is almost always intense, and this time it carries different objectives for both teams. Inter have so far failed to deliver convincing performances, seemingly still affected by the departure of their former coach Simone Inzaghi to Saudi side Al Hilal.

This puts the spotlight on new coach Cristian Chivu, who is expected to quickly find solutions ahead of this highly anticipated clash after the international break. Inter’s preparation was far from ideal, having suffered a shock home defeat to Udinese after thrashing Torino 5-0 in their opening match of the season.

The Juventus–Inter derby holds great importance for both clubs, not just in terms of the league standings but also because it comes just before the start of their Champions League campaigns. Juventus will host Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night, while Inter, last season’s runners-up and the 2023 finalists, travel to face Ajax in Amsterdam on Wednesday night.

Juventus will look to take advantage of home support to deepen Inter’s wounds and take top spot — at least temporarily — ahead of Napoli’s match roughly three hours later against Fiorentina who are currently 12th in the table. The defending champions will travel to Manchester to face City on Thursday night in the Champions League.

Here are the key stats to help you predict the right result and win big with Betway:

  • Inter have won just once in their last six Serie A encounters with Juventus (D2 L3), with the Bianconeri having beaten the Nerazzurri more times than any other club in Serie A history (88 wins).
  • Three of the last four first-half-of-the-season games between Juventus and Inter in Serie A have ended in draws (with Juve winning the other).
  • Juventus are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 home league matches against Inter (W8 D3).
  • Inter and Juventus will meet in the first three matchdays of Serie A for the third time in their history, after September 17, 1939 (Inter won 4-0), and September 14, 2013 (1-1 draw). Notably, in two of the last four encounters between the sides at Allianz Stadium immediately after the international break, Inter won one and drew the other.
  • After beating Parma 2-0 and Genoa 1-0, Juventus could keep clean sheets in each of their first three Serie A matches in consecutive seasons for the first time in their history.
  • After losing to Udinese in their last outing, Inter could lose two of their first three league matches for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
  • No team has attempted more shots from inside the box than Inter in the first two match weeks this season (27, level with Milan), while Juventus have taken the most shots from outside the box (16) and the most shots overall (38, also level with Milan).
  • After scoring against both Parma and Genoa, Serbian striker Dušan Vlahović could find the net in each of Juventus’ first three league matches for the first time. He has scored twice in his last three Serie A matches against Inter after finding the net just once in his previous seven.
  • Inter captain Lautaro Martínez has scored just two goals in 14 league appearances against Juventus.
