Henderson Set to Join Brentford After Ajax Departure

England midfielder Jordan Henderson is set to sign for Brentford following his recent exit from Ajax. The 35-year-old will join the Bees on a two-year deal, after Ajax agreed to terminate his contract a year early.

Despite receiving considerable interest from top clubs across England and Europe, Henderson has opted to move to Brentford, making them the winners in securing the former Liverpool captain’s signature. This move will not only bring Henderson back to the Premier League but also provide him with a strong platform to remain in England’s national team ahead of next year’s World Cup.

Henderson, who has 84 caps for England, is set to fill the void left by Christian Norgaard, the former Bees captain who moved to Arsenal. The formalities of the deal are expected to be finalized soon.

This return to the Premier League will mark Henderson’s second stint in English football after he left Liverpool in 2023. Over 12 years at Anfield, he won a Premier League title, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Community Shield.

Henderson’s brief spell in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Ettifaq ended after less than six months, prompting his move to Ajax in January 2024. At Ajax, he made over 50 appearances but left the club after narrowly missing out on the league title, with PSV Eindhoven clinching the trophy on the final day.

Though he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad, Henderson has been included in Thomas Tuchel’s England squads since his appointment as head coach in January 2024. Henderson made three appearances in these squads, adding to his international career after a long absence.
