Liverpool Targeting New Striker as Isak Heads Five-Man Transfer Wishlist

Liverpool have turned their attention to securing a new No.9 ahead of the 2025–26 season, with Alexander Isak topping a five-man shortlist of potential reinforcements. The Merseyside club, historically renowned for maintaining depth across their attacking line, is now keen to strengthen the center-forward position amid uncertainty surrounding key names.

According to The Athletic, a summer exit for Darwin Nunez is becoming increasingly likely, with Napoli and Saudi giants Al-Hilal circling. Though the Uruguayan netted 11 goals in the Premier League last season, his inconsistency has prompted sporting director Richard Hughes to explore fresh options. Meanwhile, Luis Diaz, another attacker under scrutiny, has drawn interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich. However, Anfield sources suggest the Colombian winger is expected to remain under new manager Arne Slot.

In response, Liverpool have drawn up a shortlist that includes some of Europe’s most sought-after forwards. Alongside Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, the names include Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea), Victor Osimhen (Napoli), Hugo Ekitike (PSG), and Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting Lisbon). However, the Reds might need to act fast: Gyokeres is reportedly nearing a move to Arsenal, while Ekitike is set to join Newcastle. Osimhen is also rumored to be heading to Galatasaray.

Pre-season preparations are underway, with Arne Slot’s squad recently facing Preston in their first friendly match. In that game, Juventus’ Federico Chiesa was deployed as a makeshift striker. Slot also handed debuts to newcomers Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, who both impressed during their short stints on the pitch.

The Reds will now head to Asia for their tour, where they will face AC Milan in Hong Kong on July 26 and Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan four days later. Whether Liverpool will formalize their pursuit of Isak or pivot to another target remains a developing storyline as transfer activity intensifies.
