Kane Scores and Misses Penalty Against Former Club as Bayern Dominate Spurs

At the Allianz Arena, Harry Kane delivered both a highlight and a talking point as Bayern Munich cruised to a 4-0 pre-season victory over his former club, Tottenham Hotspur. The England captain opened the scoring with a composed finish before uncharacteristically sending a penalty over the bar.

Kane, who joined Bayern for £86.4m in the summer of 2023, broke the deadlock after expertly controlling Michael Olise’s precise long ball and slotting past the goalkeeper. However, in the 15th minute, he slipped during his penalty run-up, sending the ball high above the crossbar to the surprise of the home crowd.

Bayern maintained complete control and added three more goals in the final 30 minutes. Konrad Laimer dispossessed Djed Spence and set up Kingsley Coman, whose curling strike doubled the lead. Coach Thomas Tuchel then introduced a wave of young talents, with 17-year-old Lennart Karl scoring a stunning first-time shot from the edge of the area, followed by 18-year-old Jonah Kusi-Asare’s superb effort from a tight angle.

This was Kane’s second appearance against Spurs since leaving, the first coming in a London friendly last year. The 32-year-old remains Tottenham’s all-time top scorer, with an extraordinary 280 goals in 435 appearances.

Bayern’s new signing Luis Diaz, acquired from Liverpool this summer, also made his debut, signalling the club’s blend of experience and fresh energy for the 2025-26 campaign. Tottenham now turn their attention to the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain on 13 August in Udine, Italy.
