Alcaraz Gears Up for Wimbledon with Queen’s Club Title

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, ranked world No. 2, claimed his third consecutive title, fifth of the season, and second at the English grass-court Queen’s Club Championship (ATP 500), after a hard-fought victory over Czech player Jiri Lehecka (ranked 30th) with scores of 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 in the final.

This result is ideal for Alcaraz ahead of Wimbledon, where he has won the title in the past two years. He also avenged his earlier defeat to Lehecka, who had eliminated him in the quarterfinals of the Doha tournament.

Alcaraz extended the longest winning streak of his career, registering his 18th consecutive victory. He became only the second Spaniard to win the Queen’s title twice (the first being in 2023), following Feliciano López, who won it in 2017 and 2019. His tally now stands at five titles for the season and 21 overall in his career.

The Spaniard is now the fifth player to win four or more titles on grass courts (Queen’s 2023 & 2025 and Wimbledon 2023 & 2024), joining Novak Djokovic (8), Matteo Berrettini (4), Taylor Fritz (4), and Nicolas Mahut (4).

Medvedev Returns to Top 10

Meanwhile, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev returned to the ATP Top 10, climbing two spots to No. 9.

Medvedev reached his first final in 15 months on Sunday but lost to Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in the Halle tournament in Germany. The run allowed Bublik to jump from 45th to 30th in the rankings, following an impressive campaign that included defeating top seed Jannik Sinner in the second round.

Despite the loss, Sinner remains No. 1, though his lead over chaser Alcaraz has narrowed. Britain’s Jack Draper regained two spots after his semi-final run at Queen’s, returning to No. 4. Lehecka climbed five spots to No. 25 thanks to his appearance in the final.

Taylor Fritz dropped to fifth after a first-round exit in London, while Novak Djokovic also slipped to sixth due to his absence last week.

In the women’s rankings, Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka maintained a large lead at the top ahead of Americans Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, despite her semi-final exit in Berlin. Czech player Marketa Vondrousova climbed 91 places to No. 73 after winning the Berlin title over China’s Wang Xinyu, who herself jumped 16 places to 33rd.

Italy’s Jasmine Paolini returned to No. 4 despite a first-round loss in Berlin, displacing China’s Zheng Qinwen, who did not compete last week.
