Guardiola Comments on De Bruyne’s Future: “It’s His Decision”

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne holds the final say regarding his future with the club, as his contract nears its expiration this summer.

According to the British news agency (PA Media), De Bruyne, 33, has spent a full decade at Manchester City, proving himself as one of the greatest midfielders in the history of the Premier League. However, his form appears to be declining, especially after his performance in City’s 2-0 home defeat against Liverpool, which sparked criticism about his influence on the team.

Speculation about De Bruyne’s potential move to Major League Soccer (MLS) has been increasing, but the option of staying at Manchester City for another season remains open, even though his role may diminish, potentially affecting his salary.

Last week, Guardiola spoke about his strong relationship with De Bruyne, which began before the Spanish coach took charge of City. However, when asked whether this relationship would influence the player’s decision about his future, Guardiola responded: “Nothing will change in that regard. Of course, we know each other very well, and we are both completely honest about this matter.”

The Spanish coach added: “In situations like this, I believe the decision is up to the player. The most important thing is for him to be honest with himself and decide based on what he feels and what he believes is best for his future. He will turn 34 this summer, and he needs to make up his mind, just as David Silva did before him.”
