Liverpool Extends Lead with a Stunning Victory Over Tottenham

Liverpool dominated their hosts, Tottenham, 6-3 to extend their lead at the top of the English Premier League. Taking advantage of Chelsea’s goalless draw with Everton on Sunday during the 17th round of fixtures, Liverpool widened the gap at the summit of the standings. The round also featured Manchester United’s shocking 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

With a game in hand, Liverpool extended their lead over second-placed Chelsea to four points, raising their tally to 39 points after securing their 12th win, alongside three draws and just one loss this season.

Goals for the “Reds” were scored by Colombian Luis Díaz (23, 85), Argentine Alexis Mac Allister (36), Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai (45+1), and Egyptian Mohamed Salah (54, 61). Tottenham’s goals came from James Maddison (41), Swedish Dejan Kulusevski (72), and Dominic Solanke (83). Tottenham remains 11th with 23 points.

This marks the first time since 1997 that Tottenham has conceded six goals at home in the Premier League.

After the match, Liverpool’s Dutch manager, Arne Slot, stated: “For 60 minutes, we did everything we needed to do. We were comfortable and good with the ball. The main thing was that we worked very hard.” He added, “But you have to be at your best for the entire game, and we didn’t manage that.”

Chelsea Held to a Draw at Goodison Park

Chelsea managed to secure only a point from their trip to Goodison Park, Everton’s home stadium. This result brought the “Blues” to 35 points in second place, with their fifth draw of the season. Everton, on the other hand, is tied for the most draws this season (7, alongside Fulham, Brighton, and Crystal Palace), lifting their total to 16 points in 15th place.

Chelsea’s Italian coach, Enzo Maresca, commented: “It was a real game. Everton is one of the best teams in Europe at keeping clean sheets. We are happy because this is a tough stadium, not just for us but for everyone in the Premier League.”

Manchester United’s Struggles Continue

Manchester United endured another devastating blow, suffering their second consecutive heavy defeat following their League Cup exit against Tottenham (4-3). United lost 3-0 to visitors Bournemouth at Old Trafford, with goals scored by Spaniard Din Hoesen (29), Dutchman Justin Kluivert via penalty (61), and Ghanaian Antoine Semenyo (63).

This marked United’s seventh league loss and their third under Portuguese manager Rúben Amorim, who has overseen nine matches since taking over from Dutchman Erik ten Hag, managing just seven points from a possible 18 in the league.

Amorim said: “It was a tough game for us. We struggled again with set-pieces and were a bit nervous. I felt it on the pitch.” He added, “After the penalty, we needed to control the game better because we know this situation is very challenging. We must suffer again, but we will try to win upcoming matches.”

United has conceded three goals at home in four different matches this season, with only Southampton faring worse, having allowed this tally five times at home.

The “Red Devils” are struggling defensively, having conceded 17 goals from set-pieces in the league this year—the most in their history, according to statistics from Opta.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth continued their impressive form, claiming their fourth win in their last five matches. They now have 28 points, reclaiming fifth place on goal difference over Aston Villa, who defeated reigning champions Manchester City 2-1.
