Ibrahim Diaz Grew Frustrated with Spain and Decided to Play For Morocco

A major surprise came from the Spanish newspaper “AS” when it revealed that Real Madrid star Ibrahim Diaz chose to represent the Moroccan national team instead of Spain, despite rumors that Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente intended to call him up for “La Furia Roja” although without any official announcement.

There was immediate speculation about Diaz’s decision. Born in Spain to a Moroccan father named Abdelkader and a Spanish mother, it was rumored that Diaz chose Morocco due to the Spanish Federation’s refusal to provide him with preferential treatment regarding his inclusion in the upcoming camp’s list at an early date.

The Spanish Federation reportedly responded firmly to Diaz, stating that the first team list would not be announced before Friday. This decision came after Diaz and his representatives had made similar requests in the past, which the Federation deemed unfair compared to other players.

Diaz’s representatives had previously requested a meeting with the Spanish Federation to understand their plans regarding including the Real Madrid star. However, this request was also rejected by officials, who believed that all eligible players should be treated equally.

It seems that this statement is the most accurate regarding the issue, as De La Fuente commented on the skillful player’s decision by saying, “I respect his position. Everyone is free to make their own decisions.”

He added, “To me, there are three basic principles for selecting players in the national team: first, that the person be able to play for Spain, second, that he is willing to do so, and third, that he be chosen by the coach.”

“What is most important to me is the desire, without any pressure or obligations, to accept equality in rights and duties. If you deviate from this fundamental principle, you will always find me opposing you.”

He concluded: “I did not speak with Diaz. I am the one who decides whether or not to call him up, and people do what they think they should do. I was definitely the coach who wanted to choose him most. I appreciate him very much and wish him the best. I have utter and absolute respect for him.”
