Liverpool Obstructs Van Dijk’s Departure to Saudi Arabia

English press sources reported that the transfer of Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk to the Saudi Roshen League this summer will not be easy due to Liverpool’s desire to obtain a huge sum of money in order to agree to sell their player.

Reports indicated that Liverpool would not agree to sell Van Dijk for an amount less than 55 million euros. This condition might hinder the Dutch international’s transfer to the Roshen League, as no Saudi team is currently willing to pay the required amount to obtain his services during the current summer transfer window.

Van Dijk recently contributed to the Dutch team’s run to the semi-finals of the European Cup, before losing to England by two goals to one.

The strong defender joined Liverpool in January 2018 from Southampton in a huge deal worth 85 million euros at the time. He excelled in leading the Reds’ defense line and won several local and continental championships with the team.

With Liverpool, Van Dijk played 270 matches in all competitions, scored 23 goals, provided 12 assists, and won 8 titles, including the Champions League and the English Premier League.

Van Dijk’s market value currently amounts to 30 million euros, and his contract with the Reds expires in 2025.

Recently, Van Dijk’s name was linked to the possibility of moving to Al-Nassr. The newspaper “Marca” reported that the sports director of the club, Fernando Hierro, met with the Dutch star’s agent last June and offered a contract that would make the Liverpool player the highest-paid defender in the world.

Al-Nasr Club deals are a popular demand during the 2024 summer transfer period, after the Al-Nasr team lost all local titles in the 2023-2024 season to its traditional rival, Al-Hilal.
