A Historic Final Between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain
Arsenal will be aiming to make history when they face Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest in the UEFA Champions League final, hoping to lift Europe’s most prestigious club trophy and bring an end to years of waiting.
The London club head into the final with great ambition after re-establishing themselves as a major force both domestically and in Europe this season. Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, arrive as the defending champions and favourites to retain the trophy, having flourished under the new project built by Spanish manager Luis Enrique, who has moved away from the era of individual superstars that defined previous years and ultimately failed to deliver the club’s ultimate objective.
The two sides reach the final with very different footballing identities. Paris Saint-Germain boast the most prolific attack in the competition, having scored 44 goals during their European campaign, relying heavily on pace, rapid transitions and outstanding individual quality.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are built on defensive solidity and tactical discipline rather than open attacking football. The Gunners have conceded just six goals throughout the tournament and remain unbeaten, thanks to a well-organized back line led by Brazilian defender Gabriel and French center-back William Saliba, as well as the influential role played by Declan Rice in midfield.
Bukayo Saka remains Arsenal’s most dangerous attacking weapon, particularly in tight spaces and on counter-attacks, while manager Mikel Arteta will also place significant emphasis on set-pieces, which have been one of his side’s greatest strengths this season.
Here are some key statistics that could help you predict the correct score with Betway:
- Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal will meet for the eighth time in all competitions. Each side has won two matches, while three meetings have ended in draws. However, Paris Saint-Germain won the last two encounters, defeating Arsenal both home and away in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals during the 2024-25 season.
- This will be the fourth Champions League encounter between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal since the start of last season, following Arsenal’s home victory during the league phase in October 2024 and PSG’s two wins in the semi-finals later that campaign.
- Paris Saint-Germain have won each of their last five Champions League knockout ties against English opposition. Manchester City were the last English club to eliminate the Parisians, doing so in the semi-finals of the 2020-21 edition.
- PSG are unbeaten in their last 11 Champions League knockout matches, recording nine wins and two draws. Aston Villa were the last team to defeat them in the knockout stages, winning 3-2 at Villa Park in the quarter-finals of the 2024-25 season.
- Since the Round of 16 last season, 54% of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League matches have been against English clubs (13 of 24 games, including the upcoming final). These fixtures include six of their nine knockout ties during that period, against Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal last season, and Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal this season.
- Arsenal could become the 25th club to win the European Cup/UEFA Champions League and the third first-time winner in the last four editions, following Manchester City in 2023 and Paris Saint-Germain in 2025. The Gunners could also become the seventh English club to lift the trophy, with no other nation having produced more than three different winners.
