Barcelona Showcase Attacking Power, Scoring Six Goals Against Valencia

In their first home match of the La Liga season, defending champions Barcelona delivered an attacking masterclass, thrashing Valencia 6-0 in Match week 4.

Fermín López (29’, 56’), substitutes Raphinha (53’, 66’) and Robert Lewandowski (76’, 86’) scored the six goals, propelling the Catalan side up to second place on 10 points, just two behind Real Madrid, who defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 on Saturday.

Barcelona played the match at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, their training ground and youth team venue (capacity: 6,000), after three weeks of playing away matches. This time, they did not use the Olympic Stadium — which hosted their home matches last season — as it was booked for a concert. Barça are eagerly awaiting their return to Camp Nou once construction work is completed and the necessary permits are granted to host matches there.

Match Highlights

Barcelona played without young star Lamine Yamal and Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, both sidelined with injuries sustained during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Gavi and Alejandro Balde also remained unavailable.

Despite these absences, the Catalan side extended their dominance over Valencia, making it nine wins in a row and 11 unbeaten matches against Los Che.

Barcelona opened the scoring when Ferran Torres sent a quick pass to López, who struck powerfully into the bottom left corner to score his first league goal of the season.

With Brazilian winger Raphinha coming on at the start of the second half, Barça doubled their lead as he converted a cross from England’s Marcus Rashford (53’).

López made things even tougher for the visitors with his second of the night — and Barça’s third — with a thunderous strike (56’), before Raphinha struck again in the 66th minute after César Tarrega’s clearance attempt fell kindly to him, allowing the Brazilian to smash it home.

Eight minutes after coming on, Lewandowski made it 5-0 with a powerful strike that bounced off the crossbar and into the net after latching onto a pass from fellow substitute Dani Olmo (76’), before completing his brace ten minutes later (86’).

Other Results

Celta Vigo denied Girona their first win of the season with a dramatic late equalizer to make it 1-1.

Ukrainian Vladyslav Vanat opened the scoring for Girona in the 12th minute, and it looked as though it would be enough to secure the win, but Borja Iglesias grabbed the equalizer from the penalty spot in the 92nd minute.

This was Celta Vigo’s fourth consecutive 1-1 draw following their opening-day defeat to Getafe (0-2). Girona, meanwhile, ended a five-match losing streak in La Liga and picked up their first point of the season after four matches.

Real Betis fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 away at Levante.

Levante took an early lead through Iván Romero (2’) and Cameroon’s Itta Ewong (10’), but Colombian Cucho Hernández pulled one back in first-half stoppage time (45+2), before Pablo Fornals struck the equalizer in the 81st minute.

Levante remain winless but collected their first point of the campaign, temporarily sitting 18th, while Real Betis moved up to six points with their third draw of the season, alongside one win and one defeat.

Osasuna bounced back with a 2-0 victory over visitors Rayo Vallecano, thanks to goals from Raúl García (15’) and substitute Iker Benito (77’), just seven minutes after coming on.

Osasuna now have six points and sit ninth in the table, while Rayo suffered their second defeat and stayed on four points.
