Barry Rescues Everton as Late Surge Denies Leeds Victory

Thierno Barry maintained his impressive scoring run by striking late to earn Everton a 1–1 draw against Leeds United at Hill Dickinson Stadium, salvaging a point after a frustrating first-half display from the hosts.

Leeds, organised and assertive under Daniel Farke, controlled proceedings early on and deservedly took the lead in the 28th minute. James Justin arrived unmarked at the far post to convert Anton Stach’s teasing cross, punishing Everton’s lack of defensive cohesion. The visitors’ dominance was such that Everton were sent off at the interval to audible disapproval from their own supporters.

Everton manager David Moyes reacted decisively at half-time, reshuffling his side and introducing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, recently returned from injury. The changes injected urgency and structure, allowing Everton to grow into the contest.

Barry, increasingly influential in recent weeks, was the catalyst. The forward, who has now scored four goals in his last five Premier League appearances, levelled the score 14 minutes from time with a sharp near-post finish from Idrissa Gueye’s low cross. It was a striker’s goal, underlining his growing importance to Everton’s attack.

Momentum briefly swung Everton’s way, with Gueye striking the crossbar moments later as Leeds suddenly found themselves under pressure. However, the visitors regrouped and defended resolutely in the closing stages to secure a well-earned point.

While Leeds will rue missed chances to put the game beyond reach, Everton drew encouragement from their second-half response and Barry’s continued clinical form.
