Luis Diaz Bids Emotional Farewell to Liverpool After £65.5m Bayern Move

Luis Diaz has officially ended his Liverpool chapter, sealing a £65.5 million transfer to German giants Bayern Munich after three and a half impactful years at Anfield. The Colombian winger penned a four-year contract with the Bundesliga champions, marking a new stage in his flourishing European career.

Having joined Liverpool from Porto for £37 million in January 2022, Diaz evolved into a dynamic force on the wing, amassing 41 goals in 148 appearances across all competitions. His influence peaked last season, registering a personal-best 17 goals as the Reds surged to the Premier League title, reaffirming his value among Europe’s elite attackers.

Throughout his tenure, Diaz clinched four major trophies, including the FA Cup and EFL Cup during his debut campaign, and played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s run to the 2022 UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid.

In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Diaz reflected on his departure with a blend of pride and sorrow, referencing the recent tragic death of teammate Diogo Jota. “I arrived with dreams, and I leave fulfilled. This would have been the perfect farewell if not for losing one of our own. Diogo will always be in my heart,” he wrote.

Liverpool had initially turned down Bayern’s first offer of £58.6m, but negotiations intensified, leading to an accepted bid of £65.5m over the weekend. Diaz was then granted permission to undergo a medical in Germany, sealing his exit ahead of the Reds’ pre-season friendly against AC Milan.

His departure brings Liverpool’s summer transfer income to approximately £115 million, helping to balance their £270 million expenditure on rising stars Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez.
