Getafe Hand Real Madrid a Second Consecutive Defeat

Getafe inflicted a second successive defeat on hosts Real Madrid with a 1-0 victory, dealing another blow to their La Liga title challenge and allowing leaders Barcelona to move four points clear of their traditional rivals.

Although Real Madrid enjoyed the greater share of possession, they failed to convert their pressure into goals and squandered several scoring opportunities. Getafe, meanwhile, capitalized on a poorly cleared cross on the edge of the penalty area, with Uruguayan forward Martín Satriano striking powerfully into the top-left corner — notably his side’s only shot on target.

As a result, Barcelona sit top of the standings with 64 points, while Real Madrid remain second on 60 points following this defeat to a modest Getafe side currently 11th with 32 points.

With French star Kylian Mbappé, England international Jude Bellingham, and Brazilian defender Éder Militão all sidelined through injury, coach Álvaro Arbeloa made several adjustments to his lineup, handing 18-year-old midfielder Thiago Pitaris his first-team debut.

Getafe set the tone from the outset, disrupting Real Madrid’s rhythm through a series of tactical fouls — committing eight in the opening 10 minutes and 13 by half-time, along with two yellow cards. Most of the challenges were directed at Brazilian forward Vinícius Júnior, who posed the visitors’ primary attacking threat.

Soria was called into action again in the 24th minute, producing a superb one-handed save to keep out Arda Güler after the Turkish midfielder skillfully dribbled past three defenders inside the box.

The decisive moment arrived in the 39th minute. After Madrid failed to clear a cross, Satriano — making just his seventh appearance since joining on loan from Lyon in January — seized on the loose ball at the edge of the area and fired an unstoppable strike into the top-left corner.

Real Madrid were met with loud whistles at the Santiago Bernabéu at half-time, prompting Arbeloa to introduce Dani Carvajal, Dean Huijsen, and Brazilian forward Rodrygo. However, the changes had little impact, although Rodrygo came close twice — first with a header from a corner and later with a shot that drifted narrowly wide of the post.

In stoppage time, Argentine substitute Franco Mastantuono was shown a straight red card for dissent, compounding a difficult evening for Real Madrid, who suffered their first home defeat to Getafe in 18 years.
