France send a clear message to Brazil ahead of the World Cup

French star Kylian Mbappé led his national team to an important morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Brazil in the friendly match held in the United States, as part of both teams’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The French national team, under the guidance of head coach Didier Deschamps, managed to secure an impressive win despite the difficult circumstances they faced during the match, most notably being reduced to ten men after defender Dayot Upamecano was sent off early in the second half. However, the experience and organization of Les Bleus helped them maintain their lead and claim a victory that provides a strong boost ahead of the upcoming global tournament.

Mbappé opened the scoring for France in the 32nd minute, before young forward Hugo Ekitike added the second goal in the 65th minute, underlining France’s superiority despite Brazilian pressure. Meanwhile, defender Gleison Bremer pulled one back for Brazil in the 78th minute.

Mbappé returned to top form after recovering from the injury that had kept him out of action with Real Madrid, taking his tally to 56 goals in 95 international appearances. He is now closing in on the all-time scoring record of the French national team, currently held by Olivier Giroud, who recently retired from international duty with 57 goals.

Eyes on the World Cup title

The Brazilian national team, led by experienced coach Carlo Ancelotti, enter their World Cup preparations with high ambitions, aiming to compete for a sixth title to add to their record haul. Seleção have been drawn in a group alongside Morocco national team, Scotland national team, and Haiti national team, in what will not be an easy task as they look to reassert themselves among the elite.

The match against France showed that Brazil still need more cohesion, particularly with several key players absent, including goalkeeper Alisson Becker, defenders Gabriel Magalhães and Éder Militão, midfielder Bruno Guimarães, as well as attacking duo Rodrygo and Estevão Willian.

On the other hand, France entered the match with a strong attacking lineup led by Mbappé alongside Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembélé. The latter played a key role in the opening goal, providing the assist for Mbappé and highlighting his impact in the final third.

Despite Upamecano’s red card following a challenge on Brazilian player Wesley after a VAR review, France did not lose their composure. Instead, they extended their lead through a precise pass from Olise to Ekitike, who finished smartly for the second goal.

In the closing stages, Deschamps made several substitutions to rest Mbappé and Ekitike, allowing Brazil to apply pressure and reduce the deficit through Bremer after an assist from Luiz Henrique. However, time was not on Seleção’s side to complete a comeback.

Brazil are set to face Croatia national team in Orlando next Tuesday in another friendly, while France continue their U.S. tour by taking on Colombia national team on Sunday, in another test ahead of the World Cup.
