The champions bring “The King” and his team’s season to an end

Oklahoma City Thunder confirmed their complete dominance in the Western Conference semi-final series of the NBA playoffs after securing a fourth straight victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, winning 115-110 to complete a clean sweep and book their place in the Western Conference Finals — in what may have been LeBron James’ final game in a Lakers jersey, or even the final game of his legendary career.

The defending champions once again showcased their strength, repeating the same flawless scenario from the first round, where they also swept the Phoenix Suns, thanks largely to Canadian superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who delivered 35 points and came up big in the decisive moments when the Lakers attempted a second-half comeback. Oklahoma, however, remained remarkably calm under pressure and managed to hold onto their lead until the final buzzer.

On the other side, a sense of sadness surrounded Lakers fans as the night felt like a potential farewell for James, who has yet to make a final decision regarding his future.

Although the veteran star produced another strong performance with 24 points and 12 rebounds, it was not enough to prevent elimination in a season that ended in disappointing fashion for a team that had hoped to seriously challenge for the championship after finishing the regular season strongly.

Attention is now fully focused on the decision “The King” will make, especially with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, which would make him a free agent able to negotiate with other teams should he choose to continue playing.

When asked about his future after the game, James remained cautious, saying he needs time to sit down with his family and reorganize his thoughts before making any final decision. He also admitted that continuing his career would depend on whether he still feels mentally and physically capable of fully committing to the demands of competing at the highest level.

The experienced superstar — widely considered one of the greatest players in basketball history — also stressed that he no longer feels he has anything left to prove after achieving nearly every possible accomplishment throughout his remarkable career.

The Lakers had entered the playoffs with major ambitions, particularly after the strong form shown by Slovenian star Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves and James during the closing weeks of the regular season. However, injuries that affected the squad — especially Dončić and Reaves — significantly weakened their offensive capabilities throughout the series against Oklahoma.

The Thunder will now face the winner of the ongoing series between the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves, which is currently tied 2-2.

Cleveland puts pressure back on Detroit

Meanwhile in the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers pulled their series against the Detroit Pistons level at 2-2 after securing a crucial 112-103 victory, inspired by a sensational offensive display from star guard Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell delivered one of the best playoff performances of his career, finishing with 43 points — including an astonishing 39 in the second half alone — in a dominant display that completely transformed the game in Cleveland’s favor.

Detroit appeared on course to move closer to winning the series after leading at halftime, but Mitchell exploded offensively in the third quarter, scoring 21 points and leading a remarkable 25-point run that completely shifted the momentum of the contest.

Mitchell’s brilliance continued into the final quarter, where he added another 18 points, while Cleveland’s defense successfully limited the impact of Detroit star Cade Cunningham, who managed just seven points in the second half.

Although Cunningham finished with 19 points overall, the Pistons were unable to maintain their advantage, while James Harden also made an important contribution for Cleveland with 24 points.
