All-Star Game to Miss Stephen Curry

Global basketball fans will be deprived of the magical touch of star guard Stephen Curry in this year’s NBA All-Star Game, scheduled to take place next Sunday, after his absence was confirmed due to an injury to his right knee.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr announced the news ahead of his team’s thrilling clash with the Memphis Grizzlies, which the Warriors edged 114–113 without Curry. Kerr explained that the medical staff opted to rest the team’s star and avoid any risk, given that he is still dealing with pain. Curry will also miss the upcoming game against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, extending his absence to five consecutive games.

Curry is suffering from patellofemoral pain syndrome, medically known as “runner’s knee,” an injury that requires rest and careful treatment to prevent aggravation or recurrence. The team’s medical staff is working to accelerate his recovery in a controlled manner, hoping he will be ready to return after the All-Star break, when Golden State hosts the Boston Celtics on February 19.

Curry last featured in an official game on January 30, when he was forced to leave the Warriors’ matchup against the Detroit Pistons due to the injury. Since then, he has been undergoing an intensive rehabilitation program under close medical supervision. In press statements, Curry said the recovery process is still ongoing, explaining that it requires patience and experimentation to determine the best way to manage the pain. He added: “I’m trying to learn during the rehab phase what works for me. The pain is still there, and we need to fully get rid of the inflammation before thinking about coming back.” He continued: “It’s important to monitor the situation carefully, because returning too early could cause the injury to flare up again, which is exactly what we want to avoid.”

Despite missing 14 games so far this season, Curry is still posting impressive numbers, averaging 27.2 points per game — the fifth-highest scoring average of his illustrious career, which began 17 years ago — highlighting his immense impact on the court and his importance to his team.

Curry joins the list of absentees from the All-Star Game, which will be held in Los Angeles, alongside Canadian star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, who is also sidelined with an abdominal injury. The league has decided to replace him in the World Team roster with Turkish center Alperen Şengün of the Houston Rockets, while no replacement has yet been announced for Curry on Team USA.
