City’s Attack Storm Sweeps Aside Liverpool

Manchester City overwhelmed Liverpool with a relentless attacking display, cruising to a 3-0 victory in Match week 11 of the English Premier League.

Liverpool had seemingly regained momentum last week with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa, followed by a midweek 1-0 Champions League triumph against Real Madrid. But City had other plans. In what was Pep Guardiola’s 1000th career game as a manager — including 550 with City since taking charge in 2016 — the Spanish tactician celebrated his 716th career victory and seventh this season, marking City’s fourth straight win in all competitions.

The result lifted “The Citizens” back into second place, reclaiming the spot from Chelsea with 22 points — four behind leaders Arsenal, who were held 2-2 by Sunderland. Liverpool, meanwhile, remained on 18 points in eighth place, level with Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Manchester United but behind on goal difference.

City started brightly as Belgian winger Jérémy Doku earned an early penalty after being brought down by goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who redeemed himself by saving Erling Haaland’s spot-kick (13’).

City kept up the pressure, and Haaland soon made amends — rising to head home a precise cross from Matheus Nunes (29’). It was his 14th league goal of the campaign and his 19th across all competitions.

Liverpool came close to equalizing in the 38th minute when Virgil van Dijk’s header found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside against Andy Robertson. Before halftime, Nico González doubled City’s advantage with a stunning long-range strike after an assist from Bernardo Silva (45+3’).

As Liverpool pushed forward in search of a comeback, Doku sealed the victory with a curling effort from outside the box into the top-left corner (63’), capping off a brilliant individual performance.

Nottingham Finally Breathe

Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest recorded just their second league win of the season, beating Leeds United 3-1.

After conceding early to Lukas Nmecha (13’), Forest responded through Ibrahim Sangaré (15’), Morgan Gibbs-White (68’), and Elliot Anderson (90+1’, penalty). Despite the victory — their first since August 17 — Forest remain 19th with nine points, while Leeds stay on 11 after suffering their sixth defeat.

Aston Villa continued their impressive form, routing Bournemouth 4-0 thanks to goals from Emiliano Buendía (28’), Amadou Onana (40’), Ross Barkley (77’), and Donyell Malen (82’). The visitors missed a penalty through Antoine Semenyo (67’).

Villa now sit sixth with 18 points, ahead of Manchester United, Liverpool, and Bournemouth on goal difference.

Newcastle United, fifth last season, fell to their fifth defeat, losing 3-1 away to Brentford. The hosts scored through Kevin Schade (56’) and a brace from Igor Thiago (78’, 90+5’), while Harvey Barnes pulled one back for Newcastle (27’). The Magpies’ misery was compounded when Dan Burn was sent off for a second yellow card (73’).
