Eighteen-year-old Jack Fletcher made his senior debut, yet the reality of relying on youth during a demanding run-in brings obvious risk. The return of Casemiro from suspension offers some stability, but inconsistency elsewhere leaves United vulnerable.

Inevitably, attention turns to January. Despite links to players such as Antoine Semenyo and Ruben Neves, Amorim has been emphatic that short-term panic will not dictate recruitment. United have taken just 10 points from their last eight league matches and have slipped into the congested mid-table pack, yet the message from the dugout remains one of restraint.

The coming weeks may define United’s campaign. Without Fernandes’ relentless drive and creative spark, survival of this stretch will demand tactical adaptability, resilience, and perhaps patience from a fanbase already bracing for difficult days ahead.
