PSG rocked by double injury blow as Hakimi and Dembele ruled out after Bayern defeat

Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League ambitions suffered a major setback after both Achraf Hakimi and Ousmane Dembélé were ruled out for several weeks following injuries sustained in the 2-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich. The club confirmed on Thursday that the Moroccan full-back and the French winger will undergo further medical evaluations after the international break, leaving Luis Enrique with serious selection concerns ahead of a packed winter schedule.

The loss at the Parc des Princes was not just about the scoreline. Hakimi was forced off moments before half-time with a severe sprain to his left ankle, the result of a reckless challenge from Bayern’s Luis Díaz. The Colombian winger initially escaped with a yellow card before VAR upgraded the decision to red. The Moroccan international left the pitch in visible distress, assisted by medical staff, and later posted on social media: “Falls are part of the journey; the comeback makes the difference.”

PSG’s medical statement read: “Achraf Hakimi has suffered a severe sprain to his left ankle and will be sidelined for several weeks.” His absence now casts doubt over his participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, where Morocco are due to kick off their campaign on December 21.

Minutes earlier, Dembélé had already departed after signalling discomfort in his left calf — just as he appeared to have broken the deadlock. It marks another frustrating chapter for the 2023 Ballon d’Or winner, who has already missed six weeks earlier this season due to a hamstring problem. “Ousmane Dembélé has sustained an injury to his left calf and will remain under treatment for several weeks,” PSG confirmed.

This double setback arrives at a delicate time for the reigning French champions, already coping without Nuno Mendes and teenage midfielder Désiré Doué. Hakimi’s marauding runs down the right have been pivotal to Enrique’s high-press system, while Dembélé’s pace and creativity have offered the spark in tight matches. Their absence may force tactical reshuffles, potentially opening the door for Nordi Mukiele and Bradley Barcola to step up.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany expressed sympathy post-match: “I hope Hakimi recovers quickly. Injuries like that remind us how tough these fixtures can be.” Díaz also posted an apology, wishing the Moroccan a speedy recovery.

PSG, currently top of Ligue 1 but chasing consistency in Europe, will be desperate for positive news after the break as they prepare for crucial fixtures against Marseille, Lens, and a decisive Champions League group finale.
