Real Madrid on the brink of a £50 million swoop for Spain starlet Dean Huijsen

Real Madrid have moved swiftly this week, opening direct talks with Bournemouth and hosting Huijsen’s agents in the Spanish capital to thrash out personal terms. The 20-year-old centre-back, whose contract carries a £50 million release clause, has made the Bernabéu his priority and the Spanish giants are ready to trigger the clause immediately.

Huijsen’s rise has been meteoric. In his first full Premier League season he logged 2,854 minutes across 36 matches, scored three goals, completed 91 percent of his passes and produced 50 interceptions—the seventh-highest tally in the division. His aerial-duel success rate of 65 percent underpinned a Bournemouth side that set a club-record 53-point haul and secured a top-half finish.

Madrid’s need is equally clear. Injuries to Éder Militão and David Alaba left the club with their leakiest defence in 21 years, conceding 76 goals in all competitions and 37 in La Liga despite averaging 2.14 points per game. Huijsen is expected to slot straight into Xabi Alonso’s squad for the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the United States this June, highlighting the urgency driving Madrid’s push.

Bournemouth, who paid just £12.8 million to sign Huijsen from Juventus last summer, stand to bank a remarkable profit, while Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool monitor developments. Unless they match Madrid’s decisive opening, however, the race appears all but run.
