Sinner Claims World No. 1 Ranking from Alcaraz

Italy’s Jannik Sinner climbed to the top of the ATP world rankings on Monday, dethroning Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz after capturing the Paris Masters 1000 title on Sunday — just days before the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin.

The two current stars of men’s tennis are also set to face off in an exhibition match in South Korea this coming January, ahead of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year. The match will be held on January 10 in Incheon, eight days before the tournament begins — where Sinner will arrive as the defending champion.

With the conclusion of the final Masters event of the season, Americans Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz, along with Australian Alex de Minaur, have secured their spots at the ATP Finals (Nov 9–16) in Turin, joining Alcaraz, Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Novak Djokovic.

The final qualifying place for the prestigious year-end event will be decided this week between Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime and Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. The Italian holds a slight advantage as he competes in the Athens Open (250 points), while Auger-Aliassime withdrew from the Metz Open.

Auger-Aliassime boosted his qualification chances after reaching his fifth final of the year in Paris — and his second in the last three tournaments — climbing two places in the ATP rankings to eighth.

Meanwhile, Zverev, who reached the semifinals in Paris, maintained his position at No. 3, while Djokovic — a record seven-time champion in Paris who skipped the event this year — stayed fifth, just behind Fritz.

On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus retained the WTA No. 1 ranking ahead of Iga Świątek (Poland) and Coco Gauff (USA), with no changes among the top eight players.

Elsewhere, Canada’s Victoria Mboko (19 years old) jumped three spots to No. 18 following her Hong Kong title win, while Russia’s Anna Blinkova made the biggest leap of the week — climbing 32 places to No. 63 after capturing her first career title in Jiujiang.
