The England international, on loan from Manchester United, rose highest to head home in the 70th minute, registering his eighth goal in all competitions for Barcelona and seemingly rescuing a point. However, the relief was fleeting. Less than a minute later, Gonçalo Guedes struck decisively to restore Sociedad’s advantage and ultimately seal the result.

The contest at the Reale Arena was defined by relentless momentum swings and VAR interventions. Barcelona saw three first-half goals ruled out for offside, with Fermín López, Frenkie de Jong and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal all denied inside the opening 30 minutes. Despite finishing the match with ten men following Carlos Soler’s straight red card for a late challenge on Pedri in the 88th minute, Sociedad defended resolutely through nine minutes of stoppage time to secure a second consecutive home league win over Barcelona.
