Real Madrid Wins “El Clásico” and Heads Towards Winning the Title

Real Madrid emerged victorious in “El Clásico,” moving closer to clinching the Spanish Football League title. Led by Englishman Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid secured a 3-2 win over Barcelona, with Bellingham scoring the decisive goal in the final moments of the match despite Barcelona taking the lead twice.

The victory in “El Clásico” adds to Real Madrid’s recent successes against Barcelona, including a 2-1 win in round 11 and a 4-1 victory in the Spanish Super Cup final. Real Madrid’s win holds special significance as it comes after Real Madrid’s qualification for the Champions League semi-finals. They achieved this by overcoming Manchester City, the defending champions, in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time in the second leg of the quarter-finals (3-3 on aggregate from the first leg).

Conversely, Barcelona entered the match with significantly reduced confidence, having suffered a harsh 1-4 defeat at home against the French team Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals of the main continental competition. This loss came after Barcelona had won the first leg 3-2.

However, Barcelona put on a strong performance as the visiting team at Real Madrid’s home ground. They took the lead twice during the match. Despite this, Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid side did not relent and responded to Barcelona’s advances. Real Madrid ultimately secured the victory in stoppage time, thanks to Bellingham’s decisive goal. This goal brought Bellingham’s tally to 17 goals in the league and 21 in all competitions in his debut season with Real Madrid.

Most significantly, Real Madrid now holds an 11-point lead over second-place Barcelona, with six matches remaining in the season.

Real Madrid did not start the match as they and their fans would have hoped, as they found themselves trailing after just six minutes. Danish player Andreas Christensen scored with a header following a corner kick taken by Brazilian player Rafinha, which Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin failed to stop.

However, Ancelotti’s team quickly regrouped and equalized in the 18th minute from a penalty kick awarded after Lucas Vasques was fouled by Pau Cobarci. The penalty was expertly converted by Brazilian Vinicius Junior, bringing the player’s tally in the league to 13 goals this season.

Barcelona believed they had regained the lead when Lamine Yamal attempted a difficult shot with his heel from a tight angle at the left post. However, Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Andriy Lunin intervened and cleared the ball off the goal line. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) took several minutes to review the decision, ultimately ruling no goal (28th minute).

Barcelona maintained possession and created opportunities but were unable to convert them into goals. The first half ended with a setback for Barcelona as Dutchman Frankie de Jong sustained an injury and was replaced by Pedri (45th minute).

Real Madrid started the second half strongly, with Englishman Jude Bellingham having an early chance, but Barcelona’s goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen made a double save that denied him the goals (50th minute). Vinicius Junior then launched a counterattack after a pass from Bellingham but missed the target with his shot (55th minute).

In the 63rd minute, substitute Fermin Lopez came close to scoring for Barcelona with a shot near the left post. He then put Barcelona ahead again in the 69th minute, being in the right place to follow the ball into the net after a cross from Yamal. Another substitute, Ferran Torres, attempted to redirect the ball into the net, but Lunin blocked it. The ball fell to the 20-year-old Lopez, who successfully scored.

However, Real Madrid quickly responded and equalized a few minutes later. Lucas Vazquez received the ball from a cross by Vinicius Junior and scored in the 73rd minute.

As the match neared its end, Jude Bellingham secured Real Madrid’s 25th winning goal of the season. Bellingham capitalized on a cross from Lucas Vasques, after substitute Joselu’s attempt to redirect the ball into the net was unsuccessful. Bellingham seized the opportunity and scored in stoppage time (1 + 90).
