Liverpool Looking to Bounce Back from Two Painful Defeats

Liverpool will be aiming to recover from back-to-back domestic and European setbacks when they visit Chelsea in Match week 7 of the Premier League.

The Reds sit top of the table with 15 points, two clear of Arsenal (13), who could move into first place before the clash at Stamford Bridge if they beat West Ham United.

After making a perfect start to the season with seven wins from seven across the Premier League, Champions League, and League Cup, Liverpool suffered their first domestic defeat against Crystal Palace (2-1) last week before falling to Galatasaray (1-0) in Europe.

Concerns have grown for the Reds, who have yet to see their high-profile new signings make an impact. Swedish striker Alexander Isak and German playmaker Florian Wirtz are still without a league goal, while injuries are piling up.

New full-backs Milos Kerkez (Hungary) and Jeremie Frimpong (Netherlands), French forward Hugo Ekitiké, and Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker are all sidelined. Alisson, in particular, was forced off against Galatasaray with a hamstring tear.

Despite Liverpool’s struggles, Chelsea’s situation looks even bleaker. The Blues trail the leaders by seven points after collecting just one point from their last three league games. They will also be without Cole Palmer, Liam Delap, and Levi Colwill, while Trevoh Chalobah’s red card in last week’s home loss to Brighton compounds their defensive problems.

Here are the key stats to help you predict the correct result and win valuable prizes with Betway:

  • After their 3-1 win in May, Chelsea could record back-to-back league victories over Liverpool for the first time since November 2014 (three straight wins).
  • Liverpool are winless in their last four Premier League visits to Stamford Bridge (three draws, one defeat) and could lose away to Chelsea in consecutive league seasons for the first time since three straight defeats between 2004-2005 and 2006-2007.
  • Chelsea have lost four of their last five home league matches against reigning champions (D1 L4), despite going unbeaten in 13 such fixtures at Stamford Bridge between 2002-2003 and 2019-2020 (W7 D6).
  • Chelsea have suffered back-to-back league defeats for only the third time under Enzo Maresca. They haven’t lost three straight league matches since a run of four under Frank Lampard between April and May 2023.
  • Liverpool will be looking to avoid successive league defeats for the first time since April 2023, after their 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace last time out.
  • Chelsea have lost three Premier League matches in 2025 after scoring first, their most in a single year since 2018 (also three). They have also won just four of their last 12 league games against Liverpool when opening the scoring (D7 L1).
  • Liverpool’s Alexander Isak has scored in each of his last two Premier League appearances at Stamford Bridge, netting for Newcastle in defeats in 2023-24 and 2024-25. The only player to score in three consecutive away league seasons against the same opponent and lose all three was Rod Wallace, with Norwich City (1992-93) and Leeds United (1994-95).
