Newcastle hinders Liverpool, while Arsenal hands Amorim his first defeat

Newcastle United stopped Liverpool’s seven-game winning streak across all competitions with a dramatic 3-3 draw in the 14th round of the English Premier League. Meanwhile, Manchester City returned to form by defeating Nottingham Forest 3-0, and Arsenal handed Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim his first defeat with a commanding 2-0 victory.

In the electrifying clash at St. James’ Park, Mohamed Salah once again dazzled for Liverpool, scoring twice (68′, 83′) and assisting Curtis Jones’ opener (50′). However, Newcastle, who had twice taken the lead through Alexander Isak (35′) and Anthony Gordon (62′), snatched a late equalizer when Fabian Schär capitalized on a costly error by Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher in the 90th minute.

Salah’s brace lifted him to 13 goals this season, making him the league’s top scorer ahead of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

Liverpool’s draw marked their second of the season, following a 2-2 draw against Arsenal, and reduced their lead atop the table to seven points. They now sit on 35 points, with Chelsea and Arsenal in pursuit after Chelsea’s 5-1 win over Southampton and Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United.

Manchester City Ends Slump with Commanding Win

In the second match, Manchester City reignited their season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s men quickly asserted their dominance, ending a four-game league losing streak and a six-match winless run across all competitions.

Bernardo Silva set the tone early, scoring in the 8th minute with a well-placed finish after a slick team move. Captain Kevin De Bruyne doubled the lead in the 31st minute, capitalizing on a precise pass from compatriot Jérémy Doku before calmly slotting the ball into the net with his right foot.

Doku completed the rout in the 57th minute, receiving a pass from Erling Haaland, surging from midfield with electrifying pace, and finishing clinically with a right-footed strike past Belgian goalkeeper Mats Sels.

This victory lifted Manchester City to fourth place in the Premier League table with 26 points, providing a much-needed boost in confidence and momentum for Guardiola’s side as they look to regain their championship form.

Chelsea continued their resurgence, thrashing Southampton 5-1 to reclaim second place on goal difference.

Axel Disasi (7′), Christopher Nkunku (17′), Noni Madueke (34′), Cole Palmer (77′), and substitute Jadon Sancho (87′) all found the net, exploiting Southampton’s struggles after Jack Stephens was sent off in the 40th minute.

Arsenal secured an important victory by defeating Manchester United 2-0 in what was widely considered the match of the round. Jurrien Timber’s header (54′) and William Saliba’s powerful finish (73′) condemned Ruben Amorim to his first loss as United’s manager and solidified Arsenal’s claim to a top-four position.

Aston Villa returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Brentford, thanks to goals from Morgan Rodgers (21′), Ollie Watkins (28′), and Matty Cash (34′), while Brentford’s lone goal came from Mikkel Damsgaard (54′).

Everton delivered a resounding 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton ahead of the derby against Liverpool. Goals from Ashley Young (10′) and Orel Mangala (33′), along with two own goals by Craig Dawson (49′, 72′), highlighted Everton’s dominance.
