Unusual London Derby Between Tottenham and Chelsea

Match week 10 of the English Premier League brings an unusual London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Sitting third in the standings, Spurs will aim to make their home advantage count this time after losing 2-1 to Aston Villa in Match week 8, following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton and a previous 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

However, their task won’t be easy against ninth-placed Chelsea — the reigning Club World Cup champions — who have come out on top in each of their last four league meetings with their London rivals.

Ahead of the clash, Tottenham manager Thomas Frank said: “We want our stadium to be our fortress. It can’t depend only on the team or only on the fans — both must be united. We have to give each other energy, work incredibly hard, perform well, and stay positive.”

Key Stats & Indicators to Help You Predict the Correct Result and Win Big with Betway

  • Tottenham have won just one of their last 13 league matches against Chelsea, losing the last four in a row since a 2-0 home victory in 2023.
  • Chelsea have won five of their six Premier League games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium — more than any other visiting team.
  • Spurs have won five of their nine league matches this season — matching the total number of victories they managed in their final 26 games under former coach Ange Postecoglou last season.
  • Chelsea have lost three of their last five league matches — more than in their previous 16 combined.
  • Only Arsenal (7) and Chelsea (6) have scored more goals from corners this season than Tottenham (5). Over the past two seasons, only Arsenal (21) have scored more headed goals than Spurs (15).
  • Chelsea have won four of their last seven Premier League away matches after going winless in eight straight. Their two away wins this season came against managers who have since left the league — 5-1 vs West Ham under Graham Potter, and 3-0 vs Nottingham Forest under Postecoglou.
  • Tottenham coach Thomas Frank has lost only two of his eight league encounters against Chelsea. However, all three of his wins came at Stamford Bridge, and he has yet to beat the Blues at home.
  • Five of Tottenham’s 17 league goals this season have been headers (29.4%) — all scored across two matches (2 vs West Ham, 3 vs Everton) — their highest headed-goal ratio since 1998-99 (16 of 47, 34%).
  • Excluding own goals, each of Chelsea’s last 101 Premier League goals has been scored by players aged under 30.
  • Tottenham’s Dutch defender Micky van de Ven scored twice in Match week 9 against Everton, becoming the first Spurs defender to do so in a league game since Jan Vertonghen in March 2013 (vs Liverpool). His next appearance will be his 50th for the club; Spurs average 1.7 points per game when he plays, compared to 1.11 when he doesn’t (since the start of 2023-24).
