Chelsea Agree £40m Deal to Sign Manchester United’s Garnacho

Chelsea have struck a £40 million agreement with Manchester United for winger Alejandro Garnacho, marking one of the most notable moves of the summer window. The deal includes a 10% sell-on clause for the Argentine, who turned 21 this year.

The transfer represents United’s fourth most lucrative sale in history, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo’s record-breaking move to Real Madrid in 2009, Romelu Lukaku’s switch to Inter Milan in 2019, and Ángel Di María’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2015.

Garnacho, once hailed as one of United’s brightest attacking prospects, was informed by head coach Ruben Amorim at the end of last season that he should seek a new challenge. Chelsea pounced quickly, having initially tabled a £25m bid before negotiations settled on the £40m fee.

Since breaking into United’s first team in 2022, Garnacho made over 80 appearances in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and assisting 18. Known for his pace, direct dribbling, and flair, the winger also earned senior international recognition with Argentina, adding further value to his profile.

For Chelsea, the move continues their aggressive rebuild under new management, with Garnacho expected to add youthful energy and creativity to their forward line as they aim to return to Champions League contention.
