Barcelona’s four-goal display against Slavia Prague marks another Champions League spectacle
Barcelona delivered an impressive attacking performance away from home, returning with a valuable 4–2 victory over Slavia Prague in the match played as part of Matchday 7 of the unified league phase of the UEFA Champions League.
This win gave the Catalan side a significant confidence boost in the race for qualification, with one round remaining before the end of the league phase. The match began in difficult fashion for Barcelona, as the hosts stunned them with an early goal through Vasil Kušej following a well-worked corner kick.
The visitors responded through Fermín López, who brought Barcelona back into the game by scoring the equalizer in the 34th minute, before the same player struck again to give his side the lead just before half-time with a superb long-range effort, underlining his standout performance.
However, an unexpected error proved costly for Barcelona before the break, as Polish striker Robert Lewandowski accidentally turned the ball into his own net while attempting to clear it, sending the teams into half-time level at 2–2 — a scoreline that did not reflect the logical technical gap between the two sides.
At the start of the second half, Barcelona imposed control over the tempo of the game, appearing more balanced and disciplined, with a clear improvement in positioning and midfield dominance. After missing several chances, the breakthrough came via substitute Dani Olmo, who unleashed a thunderous strike from outside the box in the 64th minute to restore Barcelona’s lead with a spectacular goal. Just minutes later, Lewandowski redeemed his earlier mistake by capitalizing on a cross from England international Marcus Rashford to score the fourth goal and seal the contest decisively.
With this victory, Barcelona raised their tally to 13 points, moving up to ninth place in the standings and joining a tightly packed group of teams battling to finish the league phase inside the top eight positions, which qualify directly for the round of 16. Meanwhile, Slavia Prague’s hopes diminished further as they remained among the lower-ranked sides.
In parallel, as Barcelona sent a clear attacking message regarding their ambitions to progress deep into the competition — provided they maintain the same spirit and discipline in the final round — the remaining matches produced results that further intensified the competition. Several major clubs continued their strong runs, with Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Juventus all acheiving important victories, while some evenly balanced encounters ended in draws, complicating qualification calculations ahead of the final round. A number of surprises also emerged from teams looking to break into the race, confirming that the battle is not limited to the traditional heavyweights.
As the decisive stage approaches, the competition appears more exciting than ever, given the tight point margins and multiple possible scenarios, with every match and every goal now playing a crucial role in determining the identities of the qualified teams.
