Manchester City Host Their Toughest Opponents at Home

Manchester City has been struggling with a four-match losing streak, starting with a defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, who knocked them out of the English League Cup. They then lost to Bournemouth and Brighton in the Premier League, and to Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League.

As the team reaches matchday 12 of the Premier League, City is set to face Tottenham again, this time at home, hoping for a different outcome. City has won only three of their last 10 Premier League matches againsr Tottenham (two draws and five losses), and they have not managed to win back-to-back games against them since April 2019.

It is clear that City is not in a good phase, having lost four consecutive matches across all competitions. This marks the longest losing streak in manager Pep Guardiola’s career.

Guardiola has been a major topic in the English media recently, with news about his agreement to extend his contract with the Premier League champions for another year, with an option for an additional year.

Guardiola’s current contract, which has seen him secure six Premier League titles and the club’s first-ever Champions League title since joining in 2016, is set to expire at the end of this season.

Guardiola will return to the pitch on Saturday with the goal of ending this unprecedented losing streak, aiming for a victory over Tottenham to close the five-point gap between City and leaders Liverpool (28 points for Liverpool, 23 for City).

Additionally, retaining one of the most successful coaches in football history will provide a significant morale boost to City’s players and fans. It seems that the next step will be to secure the future of Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, who has made a remarkable impact since joining in the summer of 2022.

According to reports, City is looking to extend Haaland’s contract, which currently has two and a half years left, aiming to keep him for at least five more years. Haaland has scored 105 goals in 114 matches for City, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he adds to his tally on Saturday, increasing his lead as the league’s top scorer (with 12 goals) by scoring against Tottenham.

Here are some key stats to help you predict the correct result and win with Betway:

  • Under Pep Guardiola (since the 2016-2017 season), Manchester City has lost more league matches (6) and conceded more goals (22) against Tottenham than against any other opponent.
  • Tottenham has scored at least two goals in their last three Premier League matches away to Manchester City: winning 3-2 in the 2021-2022 season, losing 4-2 in the 2022-2023 season, and drawing 3-3 last season.
  • Despite being the only team to have scored in every league match this season, Manchester City has lost their last two games (1-2 against Bournemouth and Brighton). Their last three-match losing streak in the Premier League came in 2016, which ironically included a home defeat to Tottenham.
  • Tottenham has only won twice in their last 11 away matches in the Premier League (two draws and seven losses), and has won just one of five away games this season. Since March, no team has lost more away matches than Tottenham (7).
