Antonelli continues to impress the world with a third Formula 1 victory

Young Italian driver Kimi Antonelli continued his rapid rise in Formula 1 by claiming his third consecutive victory, this time at the Miami Grand Prix, which marked the fourth round of the World Championship.

The race in Florida came after an unusual month-long break caused by the repercussions of the conflict in the Middle East, giving the return a unique context. Following the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, teams had additional time to develop their cars. The Miami race also featured new technical regulation changes, adding another layer of intrigue to the competition.

Antonelli, still only 19 years old, not only secured the win but also extended his lead at the top of the drivers’ standings, proving he is more than just a rising talent—he is a genuine title contender. He finished ahead of McLaren’s British driver Lando Norris, while Norris’ teammate, Australian Oscar Piastri, completed the podium.

George Russell came home in fourth place, while four-time world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull finished fifth. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc initially crossed the line in sixth, but a 20-second penalty dropped him to eighth place.

This reshuffle promoted Lewis Hamilton to sixth, followed by Argentina’s Franco Colapinto in seventh. Carlos Sainz of Spain and Thailand’s Alexander Albon also finished in the top ten to round out the points.

In the overall standings, Antonelli extended his lead to 20 points over Russell, while Leclerc, Norris, and Hamilton remain closely grouped behind. In the constructors’ standings, Mercedes strengthened its position at the top with a comfortable lead over Ferrari.

A race full of twists

The race began in chaotic fashion, with early incidents including a full spin by Verstappen in the middle of the track and a heavy crash involving France’s Pierre Gasly, whose car flipped during an overtaking attempt, prompting the deployment of the safety car for several laps.

After the restart, drivers headed into the pits for their mandatory stops, where Mercedes’ strategy proved decisive. Antonelli managed to regain the lead and held on to it until the finish line thanks to composed driving and excellent tire management.

Although Antonelli faced some difficulties in asserting his dominance in the first half of the race, an early strategic pit stop helped turn the race in his favor, particularly in his late duel with Norris.

Verstappen also mounted a strong comeback after dropping back early due to a pit stop, fighting his way through the field and even briefly taking the lead. However, tire degradation ultimately cost him a chance to contend for victory.

The race also featured intense battles for the top positions, especially between Verstappen and Leclerc in the closing stages, before Piastri secured third place.

Elsewhere, misfortune struck several drivers, with both Gasly and fellow Frenchman Isack Hadjar forced to retire early. Weather conditions also played a role, as the race start was brought forward to avoid potential thunderstorms, but it still took place in hot and humid conditions, adding to the drivers’ challenges.
