Two former champions searching for glory

Two former champions of the European Champions League are searching for glory after both achieved bad results in their starting game. Borussia Dortmund are hosting Milan, and both teams are aiming to get their first win.

Since August 2022, and during 18 consecutive matches, Dortmund has not lost a single game at home. However, things may change this time because the German team lost seven of 18 games at home against Italian teams.

Moreover, Dortmund did not benefit from the ground factor often in the Champions League, as they achieved only one-win last season, and it was one of only four wins in their home stadium in the previous 11 European matches.

This is good news for Milan, who have a 50% success rate in their last six matches played in Germany. Still, they must beware of a team that succeeded in inaugurating the scoring in their last three games at home, while the Rossoneri conceded the first goal during the previous two matches they played outside their home stadium.

Italian newspaper “Gazzetta Dello Sport” reported that Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Milan’s midfielder, will miss his team’s match against Dortmund due to injury, also confirming that he will be away for several matches.

The newspaper clarified that Stefano Pioli, the coach of the Rossoneri, has several options to replace Loftus, especially since he has four midfield players in his squad; Yacine Adli, Younes Moussa, Tommaso Pobega and Tijani Reijnders

Furthermore, they added that if Pioli decides to play Adli as a playmaker, he will send Musa and Reijnders in to complete the three-players midfield.

The newspaper concluded that if Adli does not start the game, the midfield will be composed of Reijnders as a defensive midfielder, with Musa and Pobega to complete the midfield trio.
