James and Another NBA Superstar on the Same Team?
LeBron James’ future has once again become one of the biggest talking points in the NBA after Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green revealed that he personally tried to convince “The King” to join the Warriors and team up with Stephen Curry next season.
Green explained that he took advantage of a recent opportunity to speak with James about his future, revealing that he made a direct pitch for the four-time NBA champion to move to Golden State amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the next destination of one of the greatest players in basketball history.
James recently announced his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers after eight seasons with the franchise, entering free agency and opening the door to several possible destinations. Reports have linked him with the Golden State Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and even a return to one of his former teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Miami Heat.
A move to Golden State has emerged as one of the most widely discussed possibilities, largely because of James’ close relationship with Stephen Curry. The two superstars were key members of Team USA, which captured the gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris under head coach Steve Kerr, who also coaches the Warriors.
Green said he felt he had to use the opportunity to raise the idea of James joining Golden State, insisting that failing to do so would have been a missed opportunity. He explained that he spoke openly with his former Team USA teammate in an attempt to learn more about his future plans and convince him that joining the Warriors could be the ideal next chapter in his career.
He added that his proposal was genuine and made in complete seriousness, although he admitted he had no way of knowing whether the conversation would ultimately influence James’ final decision. Nevertheless, Green expressed hope that it had encouraged the veteran superstar to seriously consider wearing a Warriors jersey.
The Warriors forward believes James has yet to make a final decision, noting that their conversation suggested every option remains on the table. In his view, discussions of this nature can sometimes lead a player to reassess his choices before committing to a new destination.
Green also suggested that the message he delivered could leave a lasting impression on James’ thought process, even if the NBA’s all-time leading scorer is already close to deciding where he will play next. Simply presenting the possibility, he said, may have prompted James to take another look at his options.
Green himself boasts an outstanding résumé with Golden State, having helped the Warriors win four NBA championships. He also captured Olympic gold with Team USA at the 2016 Rio Olympics and the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games, cementing his reputation as one of the team’s most influential leaders on and off the court.
James, who will turn 42 during next season, confirmed at the end of last month that retirement is not on his mind and that he intends to return for his 24th NBA season, continuing his pursuit of more records and adding to his extraordinary legacy.
Despite confirming his departure from the Lakers, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer has declined to reveal his future plans. Throughout his 23rd season, he gave no indication whether he preferred to sign another contract, begin a new chapter elsewhere, or finish his career with one of the franchises that played such a significant role in shaping his legendary journey.
