One Point Stands Between Al-Ahly and the Title After Their Victory Over Al Mokawloon Al Arab

Al-Ahly is just one point away from clinching the Egyptian Football League title for the second consecutive year and the 44th in their history, following their 4-0 victory over Al Mokawloon Al Arab. This postponed match from the 23rd round took place yesterday evening at Cairo International Stadium.

Al-Ahly boosted their tally to 78 points from 30 matches, notching their 19th successive victory. They are now ahead of their closest rivals, Pyramids Club, who have 73 points from 32 matches. Pyramids secured a 2-1 win over ZED in a postponed match from the 29th round, held concurrently at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo.

With four league matches remaining, Al-Ahly needs just one point to secure the title at the expense of Pyramids, who only have two matches left. Al-Ahly holds the advantage in direct confrontations, meaning they will be crowned champions if they earn any point in their upcoming games.

Wissam Abu Ali continued his remarkable scoring streak by netting a hat-trick, his fifth consecutive match with a goal, while Percy Tau rounded off the scoring for Al-Ahly.

Abu Ali has now scored 18 goals, solidifying his position at the top of the league’s scoring charts and closing in on the top scorer title, despite joining Al-Ahly from the Swedish Sirius Club only during the last winter transfer window.

Abu Ali opened the scoring in the 14th minute, controlling Hussein Al-Shahat’s ground pass from the left side and finishing brilliantly past Mahmoud Abu Al-Saud.

In the 35th minute, the Palestinian forward doubled Al-Ahly’s lead following a corner kick by Reda Slim. Amidst the chaos in the penalty area, Abu Ali latched onto a pass from defender Rami Rabia and fired it into the net.

In the 66th minute, Abu Ali completed his hat-trick by receiving a pass from Ashour on the edge of the penalty area and unleashing a powerful shot that deflected off Al Mokawloon Al Arab defender Faroukah Nour El-Din before finding the back of the net past Mahmoud Abu Al-Saud.

Swiss coach Marcel Koller made a quadruple substitution in the 73rd minute, introducing Khaled Abdel Fattah, Omar Kamal Abdel Wahed, Ahmed Abdel Qader, and Percy Tau for Mohamed Hani, Al Shahat, Slim, and Abu Ali.

Koller’s changes paid off in the 78th minute when Omar Kamal delivered a superb cross to Tau, who headed it into the net, edging Al-Ahly closer to their 44th league title.
