Chelsea face Liverpool hoping to salvage what remains of their season
Chelsea are preparing for another difficult challenge this week when they travel to face Liverpool, who are edging closer under Dutch manager Arne Slot to securing qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
The situation is undoubtedly far brighter for the Reds than it is for the Blues, whose hopes of competing for a Champions League place have completely faded after six consecutive defeats triggered a dramatic collapse in their Premier League campaign.
The London side are currently being led by interim manager Callum McFarlane, who took charge following Liam Rosenior’s departure after a run of five straight losses. Despite their disastrous league form, Chelsea still have a chance to partially rescue their season if they can overcome Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
However, the Blues’ league performances offer little optimism. Chelsea sit ninth with 48 points and have not tasted victory in the Premier League since their resounding 4-1 win over Aston Villa at the beginning of March. They have also managed to score only once across their last six league matches — a goal that came during Monday’s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest — highlighting the deep crisis surrounding the club.
Here are some of the key statistics that could help predict the correct score with Betway. Fans can also win a ball signed by Chelsea stars by following betwaysportsarabia on Instagram and predicting both the match result and one of the goal scorers:
- Liverpool have lost their last two Premier League encounters against Chelsea — the same number of defeats they had suffered in the previous 20 encounters combined.
- After winning 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in October, Chelsea are aiming to complete a league double over Liverpool for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
- Chelsea have won just one of their last 10 away league matches against Liverpool, a 1-0 victory in March 2021 under German coach Thomas Tuchel.
- Liverpool have lost 11 league matches this season, their highest total since the 2014-15 campaign under Brendan Rodgers, when they suffered 12 defeats.
- Chelsea have lost their last six league games, and only once before in their history have they endured seven consecutive league defeats — between November and December 1952.
- Chelsea have conceded in each of their last 13 league matches, including conceding three goals in four of their last five games. The last time they endured a longer run without a clean sheet in the league was between March and August 1991 (17 matches).
- Liverpool have conceded two or more goals in 16 different league matches this season. Only in the 2012-13 campaign did they concede multiple goals in more matches (17).
- No Liverpool player has contributed more combined goals and assists across all competitions this season than Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who has registered 13 goals and 10 assists. He is the first Liverpool midfielder since Steven Gerrard in 2013-14 (14 goals, 14 assists) to reach double figures in both categories in a single season.
- Brazilian forward João Pedro is Chelsea’s top scorer in the league (15 goals) and in all competitions (20 goals) this season. He has been directly involved in seven of Chelsea’s last nine Premier League goals, scoring six and assisting one.
